Very few things can match a golden, freshly-baked loaf of bread from the bakery: coated with butter or slathered in strawberry jam. Now, with this round bread cloche, you can bake artisan loaves that look and taste just as good.
I think some people have had issues with this cloche because they didn't "season" it prior to using. You have to prepare the cloche first in order to use it to prevent cracks. As it's made if clay, I submerged it in water in the bath for 24 hours. Dried it off and rubbed olive oil over everything before "cooking" it in the oven for an hour at 220°C. Be warned though, the oil will cause smoke so air out your kitchen and close the doors so the fire alarm doesn't go off! After all this is done, it's ready to use. I made this sunflower seeded sourdough loaf in it and I think this cloche is a great alternative to a cast iron Dutch oven. I'd recommend it.. Anonymous. Fri Mar 01 2024
