An initial verdigris coating is applied to the real copper roof to give it an instant aged effect. Further natural patination of the copper will then follow in time. It is natural for some of the initial coatings to flake away, any loose material may be brushed away to allow further natural verdigris to develop. The bird feeder is sealed with a water-based sealant and painted in soft green. To fully maintain its appearance they recommend an annual repaint using exterior water-based varnish or paint to keep the surface sealed.

I am very pleased with the wall mounted bird feeder. It is most unusual and very pretty, also practical with the pull-out tray so I can keep it clean. This also gives access to the inside edges of the bird table so they may be brushed out removing any old food which may harbour bacteria. This allows for excellent standards of bird hygiene to be achieved. The balustrade of latticework and arches around the bird feeder provide a restricted height, safe area for smaller birds to feed. This space limitation prevents access by larger species such as crows, pigeons, magpies, seagulls from the food. It also makes life difficult for predatory sparrow hawks whose habit is to target small birds on open feeder tables.
