Stumpy little steam-powered cargo ships like these were once a familiar sight around the West Coast of Scotland, providing an essential supply link ferrying goods and coal around the islands - their flat bottoms allowing them to the beach and unload in places that lacked suitable Piers. Although only a handful remains in service today, they are instantly recognized and much loved thanks largely to the short stories by Neil Munro about Vital spark and her Captain Para handy.
