If any rust appears, and it is not the desired look, wipe off with a dry clean cloth and cover with a clear lacquer. However any 'rusty' looking spots will merely be cosmetic, and only contribute to the charm of the furniture, and will not be structural or worsen dramatically thanks to the EDP coating. Anything metal left exposed to the elements will eventually show signs of rust, but this is part of the timeless look of antiqued furniture, and is what gives it its character.
