The wood comes from sustainably managed forests, thus making it an environmentally conscious option. Hemlock doesn't splinter and is naturally resistant to the elements, making it less likely to rot. The wood is treated with a water-based stain and therefore requires virtually no maintenance. This natural-based stain is not harmful to the environment and is child-friendly (chemical-free).
