This bookcase is fine, but is absolutely not worth the money. I splashed out because I expected it to be a "keep it for life" job at this price, but was pretty disappointed when I came to assemble it.
Firstly, every piece (of which there are about 20) has a label on with its part number - great. Except they aren't peelable, so every single one had to be removed with a scraper then the residue removed with white spirit. For this money, I'd hoped for something better than cheap 18mm chipboard, but that's what it is. None of the boards sit flush with each other, as per my photos.
I am basically God's Gift to flatpack, but I have never struggled assembling a unit quite like I did with this one, mainly due to the terrible instructions. The first step is to build a part which you then don't use until the end, the pictures do not show you the orientation of all the parts you're fitting, so often you have to guess and there are so many parts that you'll often get it wrong and have to disassemble bits and start again. One of the instructions is even physically impossible to do after the previous one, you have to go back and loosen fixings you've already done up. Two of the parts which are "identical" (part 18) have left me with an exposed edge which I didn't realise at the time, so I'm going to have to take it apart again to see if I can somehow swap the two "identical" parts to avoid this.
I'm sure that from a distance it's fine and most people wouldn't notice, and once it's together it seems pretty sturdy; but this unit needs to be £100 less than it is.
