Buyer beware!! This product is skilfully advertised to create the impression that it is a solid oak top. It is not. Instead it is very skilfully executed marquetry using thin layers of what might well be oak. The word “marquetry” is indeed in the detailed description but in the summary it references the colour oak and solid wood only. The weight of the product in fact comes from the very heavy metal base. It is however a very practical design and we get a lot of use out of it. But we are super careful not to spill because where the marquetry segments join together it is not perfectly sealed and any spillage will soak into whatever the underlying wood is.
